Ford vs Holden Wagons

Time to compare though to be fair I know the Ford far better than the Holden.

The first thing you notice is that the Holden is a lot more responsive to the throttle, even on LPG (yes a slight cut in power). The Ford is no slouch (also no V8 or turbo) but the Holden does feel nippier. Steering on both is good though the Ford has the better turning circle.

Well with LPG the LPG tank takes the place of the spare wheel so you loose some cargo area (though you gain  better access to the spare), the Ford wins hands down here even after allowing for the spare. On the flip side the Munchkin reckons rear leg room is a lot better in the Holden. The real surprise is how much the Ford’s leaf springs (compared to the Holden’s coil) deal with the load so much better (admittedly without a LPG tank though). That I’ll have to solve.

Driving controls are about the same though I miss the cruise control decelerate button and of all things the dash clock, I really don’t remember referring to it that often but located high on the dash it was like glancing in the mirrors a brief look away, informed, return to the road.

Economy wise the Holden wins and on LPG is even better. Yet to get a fair idea but it seems a tank of LPG is about 400Klm roughly the same as the Ford on petrol (OK you could get more but it’s to big to push up any incline).

All in all the Ford has been a good ride, I’m hoping the Holden will match it’s reliability.

I figure I own a chunk of GM, since we taxpayers are subsidizing the company right now. So by extension, since GM owns Holden, I must own some of Holden as well.

We here at GM hope you get many hours of fine driving in your Pontiac, er, Commodore.

What’s a ‘service’? Is that where they bring your Maccas directly to your car window?

The Holdens have pretty good pick up. Reliability shouldn’t be an issue. Hows the comparison with braking?
